EY Law Advocaten-avocats (EY Law) is pleased to announce the arrival of Jan Decorte as Associated Partner to lead our digital and data privacy practice.  Jan joins from Koan and has over 25 years of experience in international law firms.

Jan is a lawyer at the Brussels bar since 1991. He is also a Solicitor of the Senior Courts of England & Wales since 1998, which allowed him to practice in London and acquire an in-depth knowledge of Anglo-Saxon business law and practices.

Jan began his career in 1991 as a general commercial lawyer and quickly started specializing in corporate/commercial law- which he has been practising since 1995 – and subsequently in IT/e-commerce/Data Protection law since 1999. He has also been active in the gaming sector since 2010 and works for some of the world’s largest online operators.

As of 1998/1999, Jan started to develop a special interest in the media sector with focus on Technologies, Media & Telecommunication (TMT). He has since then acquired an extensive  knowledge of this sector and is regularly required by national and international corporations and non for profit organizations to assist them in mid-seized and larger TMT projects in Belgium and abroad.

Corporate/ commercial law (mainly M&A and private equity) was originally his main practice but the focus gradually evolved over the years to mainly IT, e-commerce and Data Protection law. Jan’s Data Protection practice has gained substantial importance in recent years in light of the evolving EU legislation and currently represents the major part of his business.

Jan regularly gives lectures in Belgium and abroad, mostly on TMT and Data Protection matters and he has been actively involved in several sectoral associations representing the interests of online actors on national and European level for almost 15 years.
